Work From Home (WFH)

Many tech companies such as Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Intel, Microsoft and Twitter, have already asked their employees to work from home to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. Many schools and universities are closing. Even Congress is planning to direct Capitol Hill staffers to work from home.

A spike in demand from millions of people working remotely is going to drive the demand for faster internet. Telecom and cable companies are going have to upgrade their equipment to support more workloads. In turn, it might drive demand and faster adoption of 5G.

Short term, productivity is going to decrease as more and more people are working from home. Many engineers probably won’t be able to access their equipment in the labs for a while. As a result, product development schedule will be delayed.

In the long term, companies especially those in the high tech industry might change their perspective on employees working from home. If they see no difference in productivity, some companies might encourage more people to work from home. On the other hand, if projects fall behind schedule, companies might decide no more working from home. Read More...
