Not too long ago, a high tech company was about to hire a senior person from a Fortune 500 company. All went well except for one thing. And it was not about money. The candidate wants the CTO title but it was taken already. They can’t take away the CTO title from the other person so they offered the candidate a different title — Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) to close the deal! Sounds familiar? This is very common especially with startups in the high-tech industry as it is very hard to find qualified and talented people.

Many of us are probably used to hearing corporate titles like CFO (Chief Financial Officer), CIO (Chief Information Officer), CTO (Chief Technology Officer), and COO (Chief Operating Officer). Typically, the “C” stands for Chief and the “O” stands for Officer. Sounds pretty simple? Not anymore.
