Becoming A Full-Time Writer Is Not For The Faint Of Heart
In the introduction chapter, Caro talks about how he did not realize that they were broke: unable to pay the bills, and his wife Ina (also his research assistant) sold the house so he can continue with his work. Fortunately, he found a good agent and a good editor to work with so he does not have to worry about money all the time. The only thing he has to worry about is just writing.
