AI surveillance tools such as BlueDots have been available in public health for more than a decade. For example, HealthMap, founded by a team of researchers, epidemiologists, and software developers at Boston Children’s Hospital in 2006. For example, autonomous driving relying on 5G might not work in rural areas if the infrastructure is not there. So how can the carriers reduce the cost to build out the 5G infrastructure? Seeing the success of the large cloud service providers in adopting the open standard to lower their cost of operation, many carriers are increasingly looking to open technology to build out the infrastructure for 5G. For example, Vodafone has recently announced it’s started OpenRAN trials in the U.K. The OpenRAN (Open Radio Access Network) is an open standard to build radio access solutions with open source software running on general-purpose hardware from vendors such as Dell, HPE, and Supermicro.
